Long Lasting Makeup! 10 Tips and Tricks

It's what we all want to know! How to make our makeup look good, stay put, and minimize touch ups! There are loads of tips and tricks so here are my top ten recommendations for MAKEUP LOCKDOWN - let's go!

1. Cool it!

Start with a cool clean face (warm or perspiring faces are almost impossible to achieve long lasting makeup)

* Ice face if you don't have much time to cool down naturally

2. Prep it! Prepping the face may be the most important step.

a) Don't neglect moisturizer, this should be done along with lip balm 10-15 minutes before makeup is started so that your skin can soak in the needed moisture and not release extra oils to combat skin stripped from cleanser. Use a lightweight moisturizer/lotion instead of heavy creams to achieve long lasting makeup

b) Primer the first bullet proof layer. Use primer or mattifying primer if you have combination oily skin. On the eyelids use an eyeshadow primer.

3. Waterproof it! Use waterproof products (foundation, eyeliner, mascara, brow gel)

*Be armed with great makeup remover when the day is done as these products are made to stay!

4. Lengthen it! Use long wear products on the lips and avoid GLOSS (the ruiner of longwear lip colour)

* Line and fill in the entire lip with longwear lip pencil. For extra lipstick staying powder, dust with translucent powder and layer lips again for maximum hold

*Matte lipstick tends to be a winner when it comes to longwear

5. Layer it!

Less is more! Instead of packing on a lot at first do light layers that are less likely to smear and slide.

6. Set it!

Translucent powder is key! You don't want to use heavy foundation powders on top of liquid or cream foundation as multiple layers can affect the colour match you achieved with your foundation as well as give you a heavy/cakey look. Instead, pair cream formulas with translucent powders/invisible setting powders.

*Lightly dust the face and press a small amount of additional powder with a sponge into oily areas

7. Seal it!

Setting sprays are perfect for sealing in each layer and building coverage while mantaining a skin finish that's sweat and smear proof.

*Seal with a final layer of setting powder.

8. Guard it!

Keep your hands off your face and practice air kisses

9. Blot it!

Never ever wipe

*Follow with a dust of powder, never the other way around
